ABMS Solutions Prevent the Risk of Potential Corruption in Emerging Markets
According to a report entitled “The World Economy on a Tightrope” compiled by the OECD and issued in early June 2020, Indonesia’s economic growth has the potential to contract by 2.8% to 3.9% in 2020. It was also stated in the OECD report that during economic recovery, emerging markets, including Indonesia, will face several risks, including the increase in the potential for corruption in the business world.
In order to prevent this risk, companies need to take greater efforts to prevent corruption, one of which is to implement an Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS). In Indonesia, ISO 37001: ABMS is a standard system for corporate liability related to PERMA No. 13 of 2016 concerning procedures for handling criminal cases by corporations.
ABMS applies not only to private companies, but also tostate-owned enterprises (BUMN) as according to the issuance of Circular No.S-35 / MBU / 01/2020. The letter was issued on January 10, 2020 by the Minister of BUMN, which contained instructions for BUMN Directors to implement ABMS in the companies they lead starting this year.
Implementing the following ten clauses of ISO 37001, may prevent bribery as well as corruption in the company:
- Normative references
- Terms and definitions
- Context of the organization
- Performance evaluation
ABMS implementation and certification could be extremely time-consuming, confusing and expensive for your company. In order to follow the process efficiently and successfully obtain the certification, your company requires the relevant training and consultations.
